Roaring 'Twenties at Old New-Gate Prison & Copper Mine
Saturday August 26, 10-7 pm
Old New-Gate Prison & Copper Mine was a popular tourist attraction in the 1920s and was as well known for live music, dancing, and social events as it was for its history. During this special event visitors will be treated to an exhibit of period Crosley Radios, old-time automobiles will dot the prison grounds, live music (from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.) performed by the "Hot Cat Jazz Band", and rousing demonstrations of the raciest dances from the Charleston to the Fox Trot. Stroll the museum grounds and you may even come across an actual Flapper or her gangster boyfriend. Period dress is encouraged, and a prize will be awarded between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. for the most period-appropriate costume. Admission is Adults $10, seniors $5, children & students (6 and up) $5, Children under 6, Free! Family Fee (includes 2 adults, $20).
